I never knew I’d miss magpies until I moved somewhere they don’t live. They are such a commonly hated bird which is a shame because they are incredibly intelligent, social and beautiful. To me magpies represent a certain urban experience, but they pre-exist the cities in which they now flourish. This in itself speaks volumes about their resilience. I wonder what we can learn from these creatures- about picking up the pieces and moving forward, repurposing and restructuring the status quo as a means for survival.
